During ISC, students work on carry-over assignments from the classroom. It is a student centered classroom, in which student's work at their own pace to complete assessments, written assignments, and receive homework support.
In addition to review & reinforcement of in class concepts, support for lengthy assignments/projects is also provided.
Other topics include (but not limited to):
- Organization - Study Skills - Personal Portfolio - Progress Monitoring
- Cooperative Learning - Transitional Topics - Creative Problem Solving (monthly challenge)
ISC is a GRADED exploratory class. Students are graded DAILY in the areas of preparedness, task completion, and respectfulness. Student's will also be graded on "Habits on Mind" rubric each term.
In conjunction, student's will be responsible for an interactive notebook. Student's will be graded on their notebook twice per marking period. The goal of interactive notebooks is to engage student's in note-taking, while learning to take meaningful notes, outlines, etc... a skill they will need as they progress through school.
Monthly challenges will be posted, in the classroom, the first Friday of each month. Students have the opportunity to complete the challenge independently (in school) for a prize. Student's are only allowed to work on the challenge once all ISC work is completed.
Team challenges, transition inventories, goals essays, budget planning, and much more will be compiled throughout the year for each student into a personal portfolio!
We'd love to have you visit our classroom! If interested, please contact me so we can schedule something.
